Phase 1 - EXPLORE

Study Visits

On September 27 – 29, 2022, a group of administrators, teachers, school counselors, and a board member from Batesville Community Schools attended the Akron in Action study visit as part of the Explore phase of the Ford NGL journey.  Another group of educators and community members attended the Academies of Nashville Study visit from March 6-8, 2023.

Besides these exploring, learning opportunities, we were intentional to communicate what we were doing and why, as well as to begin discussing the possibilities and implications of implementing the Ford NGL Model:

School Visit

On November 9 – 11, 2022. The Ford NGL community coaches conducted an Explore visit to our schools in an effort for them to get to know the schools and the people in the Batesville community.  During the visit the Ford NGL team visited all four schools and the administration building.  They conducted focus groups which included 23 community/business members, 23 parents, and 40 students representing all four schools.  All stakeholder voices were heard and it allowed the outside perspective from the Ford NGL coaches to create a report that showed our highlights and areas of improvement. They focused on the three Ford NGL Strands – Structures, Systems and Processes, Teaching and Learning, and Community Partnerships. Below is a link to the Full Explore Report compiled from the visit as well as a report with highlights of the key findings and areas for consideration. In addition, a video was created to document the Phase 1 part of Batesville’s Ford NGL journey.

Phase 2 - ENVISION

On February 12, 2023, Batesville Community Schools conducted Envision Day 1 at Ivy Tech facilitated by Ford NGL.  The workshop brought together parents (13), educators (23), students (23), business partners and community organizations (29) to envision and draft a Batesville High School Portrait of a Graduate.  The purpose of the day was to answer the following questions through the voice of our community stakeholder groups:

  1. What is the vision for community-connected transformation for K-12 students in Batesville Community Schools?
  2. Which academic, technical knowledge do graduates need?
  3. What skills will be critical to graduates’ success regardless of whether they enlist, enroll, or seek employment immediately after high school?
  4. What types of in and out of school experiences should all graduates have had?
  5. What are the personal attributes graduates need to have to be active, engaged, caring citizens?

Paul Ketcham, Superintendent stated, “The opportunity for our students to learn will no longer be contained within our four walls, but the opportunity to learn will encompass all educators and experiences inside the 47006.”

Thank you to the Batesville Community for being part of our journey as we move to embed relevant educational experiences in our community to amplify educational outcomes.

Ivy Tech was a fantastic host, and our Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) coaches were instrumental in leading our work.
