Phase 1 - EXPLORE
Study Visits
HHSC took teams of board members, administrators, teachers, and counselors on study visits to Akron, Ohio (Akron in Action study visit – September 27-29, 2022) and Nashville, Tennessee (Academies of Nashville study visit – March 6-8, 2023). These visits allowed us to see the potential of what we can achieve in our district by partnering with Ford NGL. We also learned that the process is not “one size fits all” and it is our job to take the tools and strategies we learned and use them in ways that will make Hamilton Heights an even better place to prepare students for enrollment, enlistment, and employment.
School Visit
Hamilton Heights conducted their Phase 1 Explore visit from February 22-24. The timing of the visit coincided with FFA week and the Ford NGL coaches enjoyed visiting the Annual FFA Community breakfast (see pictures below). Ford NGL coaches visited our community and met with focus groups of various stakeholders over the course of three days. During the Explore Visit, the Ford NGL coaches toured our facilities and met with the leadership team, school board members, and community and business leaders. They also sat down with focus groups of students, parents, and staff members from each building. This visit had an impact on everyone involved, but it made a strong impression on community members and their involvement with our schools. Since that time, many of the community members have been invited to participate in our school board retreat and assist with creating our strategic goals for 2023-2024.
In May 2023, we received the full Ford NGL Explore Report outlining the key findings and recommendations from the Explore Visit. Since that time, we have been working on Phase 2: ENVISION and planning our Portrait of a Graduate day in September 2023.
The original goal of our participation in the grant was for us to be able to add a third counselor at Hamilton Heights High School. Since then, we have had multiple opportunities to improve and align our efforts collaborating with community partners and begin a Freshman Academy for the 2023-2024 school year.
